Bulldogs Involved Through Service
A collaboration between Butler University and the Student Government Association, BITS is a day-long service learning project done by students, faculty, staff, and the wider Butler community.
Bulldogs living, learning, and serving together
First Year students (residential, commuters, and transfers!) this is your chance to join in a great Butler tradition of serving together! The Fall 2024 BITS program will be September 7, 2024 – save the date! No experience necessary, just a desire to meet new friends, learn about different organizations throughout Indianapolis, and the willingness to learn and participate through service!
How to Register:
- Each individual participating in BITS must be registered by using their Butler email address.
- The 2024 registration link is coming soon – check back here!
- When registering, students will have the chance to identify up to two fellow students that they’d like to join during their morning of service. Please note that both parties will need to identify each other so please communicate to your friends! Though we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate all requests, we will try our best!
What to Expect:
- Students will need to register for the event through the link. We will have BITS student staff at a variety of events during Welcome Week that will remind you of this, but we encourage you to register early!
- The morning of BITS, students will check in, grab breakfast and a t-shirt to ensure you’re ready for the morning.
- From check-in, students will head to the auditorium to hear from our guest speaker. The guest speaker will help educate us and provide context on the topic of food insecurity/food justice that we’re focusing on throughout our service sites.
- From the auditorium, we’ll divide and conquer! You’ll be put into groups that will go on busses and serve at selected service sites around Indianapolis or on campus. You’ll have upper classmen who will guide you along the way and be your point person on site.
- Together you’ll get a short orientation at your service site and then you’ll serve! The tasks at each service site vary depending on the organization’s needs.
- Afterwards, the busses will transport you back to campus where you and your new friends will take some time to reflect on your experience over lunch.
Trust us, it’s fun and you won’t want to miss out!
